JU postpones Cultural Council election

JAMMU, Sept 16: In view of students protest on the campus demanding arrest of those involved in the September 13 incident, the Election Commissioner, Prof Jasbir Singh today postponed the election of the Students Cultural Council scheduled for today. Now, the election for the post of Secretary, shall take place on September 19 at the same time and venue. "Everything was in place for the conduct of the election. Even voters started turning up at the given time of 12 noon, but soon a group of students approached the Election Commissioner, Prof Jasbir Singh with a request to postpone the election, who, in consultation with other members, agreed to the students' demand," an official of the Department of Students Welfare told.
Students lodge protest
Demanding early arrest of other students involved in the September 13 incident, students today boycotted their classes and lodged protest on the campus. Thereafter, these students in the shape of a procession moved towards Bikram Chowk amidst raising slogans.
