Early Times Report

Reasi, Sept 16: Agitated over the ganagrape of a girl in Reasi by police personnel, the protestors continued to stage protest and burnt effigy of police besides gherao of tehsildhar office in Reasi to give vent to their ire as police has failed to nab the third accused of the gangrape.
Amid sloganeering the protestors blocked main road for almost five- six hours which paralyzed vehicular movement on Reasi road.
The protestors were demanding strict action against all the police men involved in kidnapping and rape. They said that police has so far failed to arrest the Head Constable, who happens to be the PA of SSP Reasi.
However the protesting locals were pacified only after intervention of senior police and administrative officers who assured early action and persuaded the agitated locals for lifting the protest.
The officials said that the absconder will be arrested soon as different police teams have been constituted for the purpose and massive manhunt in this connection is on.
Pertinently, three police officials including an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Harmesh Mehta and a Head Constable Satveer Singh, SPO Karnail Singh were booked following the complaint of kidnapping and gang rape after a Talwara based teen registered a complaint with police. Police observing the gravity of the issue acting swiftly conducted raids and had arrested ASI and SPO on spot however another accused Head Constable managed to flee. Here it also needs to mention that it was only the assurance from District Magistrate (DM) Shahid Iqbal and Superintendent of Police (SP) Reasi Sharief Chouhan, that the absconding accused former PA to SSP Satvir Singh will be arrested within two days, the protestors lifted their protest on day before yesterday.
