early times report Jammu, Sept 16: None of the Indian universities figure amongst first 200 universities of the world because govt schools, the largest education sector, are neglected in a way to banish education from the society. The regular media reports highlighting the plight of govt run school education vital for building foundation of a strong education system, not withstanding, their condition is deteriorating with decreased enrolment with private schools opened up right in front of them promising better education. In a sample survey, it was found that Government Middle School Ratnu Chak of Purmandal Zone upgraded last year was found staffed with two teachers as before being a Primary School. The addition of 6th, 7th, & 8th class did not get the school additional staff. Missing seating desks in the school, the children despite being neatly dressed were seated on floor- mat reminding of the time of fifties and sixties of 20th century. All students of 'Middle School' were found huddled in two rooms justified by the posting of only two teachers. With full six months of session 2013-14 already over, till August end, the students entitled to receive free book supply had not received books English & Hindi of 5th class, Maths 6th class, Stationary-note books, pencils & pen for all. In Government High School Kaluchak, Purmandal Zone students of 8th class had not received their Maths books till end of August, though teachers to teach are there in school. It was encouraging to see enthusiasm of the two teachers of Ratnu Chak Middle School to serve poor children-even help them financially- enrolled in government schools. Where teachers are there, books go missing for half the session and where schools are upgraded, teachers & books are not there. How can one say that education is being imparted where tax payer is heavily investing? S S Bijral IPS former IGP & Director General of Mother- The Nature organization is strongly making a point for consideration of Director School Education Jammu to remove these serious deficiencies in the two schools. So much so, the self funded organization is striving to arrange seating desks for precious little children, if deptt fails to come up to expectation. |
