| NABARD organizes capacity building programme for farmers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 6: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) organised a capacity building programme on forward markets for the benefit of Farmers at Karalian in Ramgarh area of district Samba. The programme was organised with the objective to make the farmers aware about the existence of commodity exchanges and that the farmers can take advantage of these exchanges to get appropriate price for their farm produce. Guiding the participants, Surinder Singh, District Development Manager of NABARD apprised that normally when the farm produce is harvested, there is a glut in the market and the prices crash down resulting in distress sale. The farmers were advised that the situation could be avoided by storing their produce in the warehouses and temporary advances can be drawn against the warehouse receipts. He asserted that the presently it is the tendency of the farmers that they cultivate the crop based on present price. The farmers can take the benefit of future markets and subsequently shift to other crops which may yield better returns. A large number of progressive farmers, members of Panchayati Raj Institutions and women attended this programme. M K Gupta, Director RSETI, S L Sharma, FLCC Head, Purshotam Kumar, Agriculture Officer and Ajit Sharma also addressed the gathering. |
