| J&K's daily wager bonanza goes missing | | Hapless candidates get Rs 125 instead of Rs 150 | | Akshay Azad
Jammu, Oct 6: The tall claims of Omar Abdullah led coalition government proved to be a hoax after the lapse of seven months, since the daily wage was enhanced from Rs. 125 to Rs. 150 but several thousands of daily wagers working in different government departments are still getting Rs. 125. Sources informed Early Times that the decision regarding enhancement of daily wage to Rs. 150 was announced by state government during March 2013 and same had generated a hope among hapless-lot of daily wagers, but in the period of last seven months, few departments have implemented the order while others have failed to implement the same due to some unknown reasons. "Public Health Engineering Department, Jammu and Kashmir Estate Department, Irrigation and Flood Control, daily wagers working in various colleges across state and in other departments are still getting Rs. 125", sources said. They further informed that more than 14000 daily wagers have been working in PHE department, while around 370 in Estates department including 260 in Kashmir and 110 in Jammu division, around 400 in Irrigation department and several thousand daily wagers working in various government degree colleges and other departments, were still getting Rs. 125 as daily wage. Lashing out at government for its alleged failure to implement its own order, a daily wager Rajesh Kumar rued that the inflation rate has been mounting with each passing day and it was not possible of daily wagers to mange budget in such meager amount. "At one hand in open market the daily wage is Rs. 300, but government departments have failed to enhance wage to Rs. 150", he said, and castigated that the departments have seemingly made mockery of government's order. "The monthly salary of daily wagers working in PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control department has been pending for the last around one year, which has made life of daily wagers miserable", an employee leader Kartar Chand said. Prem Singh Bawa of Estate department said that at one hand, daily wage was not enhanced by department, while on the other six months' salary of daily wagers working in Estates department was pending. "The government had patted its back, when it had made announcement of enhancing daily wage, but same has failed to exert pressure on departments to implement the order, which is pointing towards a fact that government is least bothered about implementation of its own orders", he said. |
