| Around 1000 shopkeepers, families on Banganga road in darkness since last 5 days; Stage protest against Power Development Department | | | Ajay Sharma
Katra, Oct 6: Angered over casual approach of Power Development Department (PDD) to replace the damaged transformer, shopkeepers and locals of Banganga road area today staged protest demonstration in Ban Ganga area. The protesters also blocked Ban Ganga road for more than one hour, disrupting the vehicular movement and putting in-convenience to pilgrims, visiting holy shrine.Amid raising slogans, hundreds of residents and shopkeepers under the leadership of former MC Chairman Amrish Magotra assembled in Ban Ganga area and started protest demonstration alleging Executive Engineer PDD Sanjeev Rathore and AEE Rahul Gupta for not replacing the damaged transformer. "Since last five days around 1000 families including shopkeepers are in darkness. When we had approached the above said officials same had assured us to replace the damaged transformer before beginning of Navratra festival but nothing has been done", the protesters said. They further said that at Higher Secondary School Ban Ganga, cultural progammes were organized annually, but due to damaged transformer, the organizers were facing hurdles to arrange the activities. Additional Suprintendent of Police Pawan Parihar rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring that he would immediately put up the matter with Deputy Commissioner Reasi and officials of concerned department. The protesters agreed to lift the blockade after the assurance. The protesters threatened to launch an agitation if the transformer would not be fulfilled till tomarrow. |
