| MHRD releases 1300 pending scholarships under PMSSS | | | Early Times Report Srinagar , Oct 6: In a major development the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has released 1300 pending scholarships under Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme for J&K (PMSSS) . The total number of disbursed scholarships has now gone upto 4300 as 3000 scholarships were already released by the MHRD through All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) which is the nodal agency for implementation of this scheme. As per the details available the AICTE has announced release of 1300 pending scholarships for the academic year 2012 -13 . Now around 550 scholarships are yet to be disbursed which according to MHRD sources would be released soon after re-verification of the documents of the eligible candidates . Many candidates who are perusing PG and PHD courses in various universities outside J&K had also applied and according to the scheme (PMSSS) such candidates are not eligible as this scheme is meant for only under graduate courses like B Tech , BAA , BCA , B Pharma , BDS , MBSS etc . According to MHRD officials some candidates have applied under Management quota and taken admission after September 30th and such candidates have also been dropped and the number of such candidates is around 350 but after series of meetings between students , parents , civil society members and officials of MHRD this issue would be solved soon as all this has happened inadvertently . " We have urged upon MHRD that many students who took admission under management quota last year were not familiar with the scheme (PMSSS) and this has happened inadvertently but the annual income of all such students is below the prescribed limit of 4.5 lakhs / annum" said Syed Nassarullah Shah Chairman JK Peoples Forum a Srinagar based Civil society group . When asked about taking money from students by some NGO's Nassarullah under the grab of this scheme he said that his organization welcomes the announcement of probe by State Crime Branch. Earlier J&K Higher Education Minister Mohammad Akbar Lone had urged upon the Union HRD Minister Dr Pallam Raju to come to the rescue of around 2000 students who got admitted in the academic session of 2012 but haven't been paid the scholarships yet. The Higher Education Department of J&K Government had asked the students who have been denied the scholarships during last academic year (2012 -13) to submit their grievances / furnish the details before the Higher Education department so that J&K Government could take up this matter with Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). |
