Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 6: In an age where state government spends crores on various causes, a doting father of a nine- year- old child, Jaskirat Singh waits for getting financial help from government for his child who is diagnosed to have a Primary Immunodeficiency Disorder (Bruton's Hypogammaglobulinemia) and mandates 3 to 4 weekly injections of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) on a regular basis.
This child is one among the 40 patients in India and the only from Jammu and Kashmir who is suffering from the above disease which if not treated timely may even cause death. It is totally incurable and if provided with monthly doses of IVIG, he can have a good long term prognosis.
The injection costs him a hefty amount of Rs 25,000 per month and the cost of therapy would go up as child grows. For a single family like his, he has no stable source of income so this amount is unbearable. Till now he has taken help from his acquaintances and with each passing day the worry for his child is growing.. Tarvinder said, "As I am his father I have provided my child with treatment to all extent of my possible ways, but now my finances are weakening as I am a taxi driver and can't afford that much amount, so I need some financial help so that my child can feel the merriment of innocence and playfulness of his unexplored self."
Four years have lapsed Medical Aid Committee (MAC), headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured granting financial aid to help out the family in providing highly expensive treatment to the ailing boy but state government has played with life of nine year old by not providing him with assured medical aid till now.
"I had taken up my son's case to Deputy Commissioner Jammu and he had recommended my child's case to Medical Aid Committee to provide me Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 per month but committee only provided two injections of 20,000 each till now in four years and from four years his case file has remained pending with them with no further help given to him. I have time and again requested them to help me further but they only tell that they don't have enough funds with them and don't even give genuine reasons for not providing help to me in writing which shows a complete imbalance in the current official system," he further added.
"Since then I am running pillar to post but nobody hears us," he said.
