EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 6 : Jyoti Ved, the lone female contestant for the post of president of Evacuee Property Tenants Welfare Society (EPTWS), Jammu province, has won the election and declared elected as president of the Society. As per a press release, Jyoti Ved defeated her arch rival Banarsidas Angral for the post of president by securing a total of 252 votes while the latter got only 244 votes. A total of 496 votes were polled in the election for the post of president. The elections were held in the premises of Modern Academy School, Dalptaina, Jammu and process began since early in the morning today, which concluded in the afternoon. Earlier in the day, there was some attempt by some vested interests to rig the elections, but with the intervention of SP, Jammu and DSP City, the elections were held smoothly. Talking to media persons after her election as president of the Society, Jyoti Ved expressed her gratitude to the members for their wholehearted support in the elections. Regarding her future plans, she said, "My first priority will be to get fulfilled the demand for ownership rights for the EP tenants, who are struggling for this for last several years." "I will also try my level best to solve other genuine grievances of the tenants, which remained unfulfilled so far," she added. It may be mentioned here that Mohammad Sharief and Tej Ram have already been declared elected unopposed as general secretary and treasurer of the Society respectively. |
