| GBSWA, PSA appeal Gojri, Pahari speaking people to unite against attempts to silence JU students | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 6 : Gujjar Bakerwal Students Welfare Association (GBSWA) and Progressive Students Association (PSA) today appealed to all Gojri, Pahari-speaking refugees and all other pro-people social organisations to stand united against attempts to silence students of Jammu University. Addressing a press conference at Gol market, organized in context of order issued by Vice Chancellor of Jammu University rusticating two, suspending four students and banned PSA, a student organization, President of PSA Dhiraj said, "The administration;s crackdown on students demanding a Gojri and Pahari Research Centre can only be fought through such a unity. We appeal to organisations representing all downtrodden sections of society to lend their support." He further said that PSA and GBSWA didn't have the political back of any electoral political party. "Any organisation that refuses to bow to the state and administration becomes an easy target. Whether it is an SC/ST/OBC organisations fighting for their right to reservation, or refugee organisations fighting for adequate compensation. We don't have ministers or large money banks. Our only strength is our unity and the support of common people.", he said. Commenting on illegal order by JU administration, President of GBSWA Talib Hussain said, "The VC does not have the authority to ban any organisation, only the Government and the Judiciary can do so. The VC is trying to encroach on the authority of the government and the Judiciary." He further said, "PSA has been banned because it, along with the GBSWA, has consistently spoken in favour of students and against the administration. "The other organisations in JU campus have consistently indulged in intimidation and goondaism for years. The administration has never taken action against them because they have consistently worked in favour of the administration and against the welfare of the students", he said. While criticizing the action, executive member of PSA, MS Bhatti said, "The administration has not followed even the basic legal norms. We were given no show cause notice. No charge sheet was handed to us prior to the enquiry. Even before a preliminary enquiry suspension and rustication orders were issued." He further said that the administration has accepted the version of the goonda elements and the version of PSA and GBSWA has not even been heard. "PSA and GBSWA activists were attacked on the 12th of September. The administration promised to take action within a week on our complaint, what action has been taken against these goondas? On the 12th night some goondas came to my hostel room and threatened me. On the 13th of September we were attacked again while we were mobilising students against the inaction of the administration. A scuffle ensued. Instead of properly investigating the matter the VC has taken a completely one sided action.", he said. TalibHussain once again appealed to all pro-people organisations to unite against the authoritarian attitude of the administration and ensure justice. Establishment of Gojri and Pahari Centre must be ensured. All punishments against protesting students must be revoked. |
