sports reporter DODA, Oct 6: Islamia Banihal and Shaheed Manjeet Club won the inaugural matches to advance into the next round of the Champions Trophy, organised by Youth Combine Cricket Club Bhaderwah in collaboration with 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Bhaderwah, here today. In the first match, Islamia Banihal defeated Furqan Gath by 70 runs. Batting first, Islamia set a target of 132 runs in 20 overs game, which, in reply, Furqan Gath could not chase and bowled out for 62 runs. For his five-wicket haul, Nawaz of Islamia Banihal was declared man of the match. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Shadeed Manjeet Club Poonch defeated Farid Gath by 82 runs. Batting first, Shaheed Manjeet Club made 152 runs in 18 overs. In reply, Farid Gath could make 70 runs when whole side bowled out in 16.2 overs. Sarfaraz of Manjeet Club wad declared man of the match for his 52 runs innings. Earlier, the competition was declared open by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Doda, Mubarak Singh, who was chief guest. Commanding Officer, 4 RR Bhaderwah was the guest of honour. ------------------------------------------------------------ Ravinder of MP bags first place in FIDE Chess sports reporter SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Ravinder Nikam of Madhya Pradesh (MP) emerged winner in the All India level FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, organised by All J&K Chess Association under the aegis of All India Chess Federatin at SP School, MA Road, here today. Second place went to Suresh PK of Kerela while Deep Kapoor of Delhi declared third on the basis of their performance in the nine-round Rs one lakh prize money competition. Sumit Grover was adjudged best player of the state while Khalid Amin was declared best among those participants from Kashmir. Additional Director General of J&K Police, Dr S P Vaid was chief guest, who gave away prizes to position holders and other participants. In all, 100 players drawn from 15 states of the country took part in this tournament. International Arbiter, Debashish Barua was chief arbiter of this event. He was accompanied by Rashmi Saini of Punjab. |
