sports reporter SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Delhi lifted the title trophy of the National School Games (NSG) under-14 boys' Cricket Tournament which was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) under the banner of National School Games Federation of India (NSGFI), here today. In the final, played at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, here, Delhi defeated Uttar Pradesh by three wickets. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, UP set a target of 110 runs for the loss of nine wickets in given 30 overs, which, in reply, Delhi chased in 24 overs losing just three wickets. The highlight of Delhi innings was brilliant 46 runs contribution from Karish Gaur, who was later declared man of the match. Arsalan Ansari of CBSE was named best batsman while best bowler trophy went to Saif Ahmed of Delhi. In the hardliner, played at NIT ground, Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan (NVS) defeated CBSE. In the final and valedictory function, Minister of State for Sports, Feroz Ahmad Khan was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners up trophies as also other individual prizes. Speaking to the gathering, Minister lauded the role of DYSS for showing immense dedication and zeal in popularizing sports among young generation, besides for making youth disciplined and cultured by way of participating in sports activities. However, he said that there is always room for improvement and it was need of hour to give fillip to sports sector by introducing latest and modern trends, so that our youth is able to face the challenges and competitions on global level. Director General of J&K Police, Ashok Prasad was guest of honour. Secretary Youth Service and Sports, Parviz Malik, Director General DYSS, Navin Aggarwal, Joint Director, Madan Lal were among other distinguished gathering. Earlier, in his welcome address, Navin Agarwal said that convergence of children from 21 states in Srinagar was a clear indicator of improved situation in Kashmir and hoped that the visiting children would spread the message to other parts of the country. |
