JAMMU, Oct 9: Winning two of the three prestigious 100 meters gold, Jammu district boys dominated the opening day of the three-day inter-district divisional level athletics meet, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at University of Jammu (JU) grounds, here today.
Out of a total of 12 field and track events held in three age groups of under-14, under-17 and under-19 today, Jammu athletes clinched six gold medals. District Samba and Poonch were trailing with three gold medals each.
Earlier, the coveted 100 meters gold in under-14 and under-17 category clinched by Sajjad Hussain and Inderjeet Singh of Jammu district respectively. The under-19 sprint gold went to Yaar Mohammad of Poonch.
The competition was declared open by Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU), Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, who was chief guest. Prof Bhau interacted with the athletes from different districts of Jammu Division and encouraged them. Around 225 athletes are taking part in this three-day boys' meet.
Earlier, Deputy Director, DYSS, Jammu, Ved Parkash welcomed the chief guest and other participants and wished them success.
In the meantime, newly appointed Deputy Director (Central) of DYSS, Kanchan Bala presented the medals to those winners on opening day. Later, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu, Tirath Ram presented vote of thanks.
Among others present were Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEO's), Sarita Pandha, Sher Singh, Jeet Singh and Saroman Dogra.

UNDER-14 year: 100 mts: Sajaad Hussain, Jammu, Ist; Vijay Kumar, Samba, 2nd and Noor Ali, Kathua, 3rd. 600 mts: Ashraf Ali, Kathua, Ist; Ajay Kumar, Jammu, 2nd and Vishal Singh, Reasi, 3rd. Long Jump: Shabir Ahmed, Samba, Ist; Sahil Kumar, Jammu, 2nd and Showkat Ali, Kathua, 3rd. Shot Put: Shabir Ahmed, Samba, Ist; Abdul Hafiz, Ramban, 2nd and Babu Din, Kathua, 3rd.
UNDER-17 year: 100 mts: InderJeet Singh, Jammu, Ist; Nitin Sharma, Samba, 2nd and Shiv Kumar, Kathua, 3rd. 800 mts: Mohd. Abass, Poonch, Ist; Parveer Ahmed, Jammu, 2nd and Ranjeet Singh, Udhampur, 3rd. Long Jump: Rajinder Kumar, Jammu, Ist; Arvind Kumar, Kathua, 2nd and Varun Kumar, Udhampur, 3rd.
