Talks must go on with Pakistan, says NC
Foreign policy in a shambles
10/9/2013 10:44:27 PM
Rustam
JAMMU, Oct 9: The entire nation had been seething with anger following what rogue and terrorist Pakistan did in Mendhar, Poonch, Hiranagar, Samba and Keran and demanding military action against Islamabad saying things had assumed alarming proportions and to overlook the Pakistani evil machinations would be to help Pakistan achieve its anti-India goals. Not just the nation, many political parties, including even the Samajwadi Party of Mulayam Singh Yadav, which is known for appeasement policy, had been condemning Pakistan and urging the Union Government to act and act decisively, but failed to evoke any positive response. On the contrary, the Congress and the UPA Government defended the Indian foreign policy vis-a-vis aggressor Pakistan and declared again and again that talks with Pakistan will go on even if Islamabad continued to export terror to India.
Here in our State, the NC, which is ruling the State in alliance with the Congress and sharing power with the Congress at the Centre, followed the same line: talks with Pakistan must go on, terror or no terror. Yesterday evening, NC MP from Anantnag Mehboob Beg, who condemns the Indian Army, the Indian Constitution and everything India, barring the hard earned Indian rupees, almost everyday made common cause with the Congress and unsuccessfully tried to defend Prime Minister Manmohan and his foreign policy vis-a-vis Pakistan which had been inflicting pain on India since 1947. He shamelessly said that there was no alternative to talks with Pakistan and that it would be a foolish act if New Delhi took action against Islamabad. The clueless and visibly shaken Beg tried to defend the indefensible and in the process got snubbed during the debate by the anchor and two panelists on India's foreign policy towards Pakistan - debate organized by TIMES NOW.
Beg expressed outrageous views saying talks with Pakistan were in India's national interest. Words from his mouth "national interest" must have stung many of TIMES NOW watchers, as national interest and the NC are two different things. The NC had all through sought to subvert the Indian polity both from within and without and when Beg talked of national interest, he obviously meant the Pakistani interest. It needs to be noted that his boss, who is working president of the NC and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah, had repeatedly said that Pakistan was a factor in the political situation of the State and New Delhi had to engage with Islamabad to resolve the so-called Kashmir issue. About a week ago, Omar Abdullah had even tried to internationalize the Kashmir issue during his meeting with the visiting European Union delegation in Srinagar. Which national interest Beg talked about? Certainly, not about the Indian national interest. He talked about the Pakistani national interest without saying so. And, today, he underplayed the Pakistani aggression on Keran sector and said what happened in that sector that took the Army more than 15 days to get the aggression vacated was a "normal infiltration bid".
There is something fundamentally wrong with those who are at the helm of affairs in New Delhi. They are responsible for whatever has been happening in the State and outside. The situation would not improve as long as they continue to remain at the helm of our constitutional and political institutions. The situation would improve only if there is change of guard in New Delhi.
