Javid A Malla SRINAGAR, Oct 9: The Wild Life Department's 'deep slumber' has again come to fore when a seven year old girl was attacked by a Hyena (dog-like species) outside her house in Najibhat Kreeri in Baramulla, injuring her critically. She was rushed to district hospital Baramulla where from doctors referred her to SKIMS, Soura for specialized treatment. The attack, meanwhile, triggered a sense of resentment among the people of Kreeri against the Wild Life Department as they alleged that despite being aware about the presence of wild animals in the area especially in Kreeri block of Baramulla district, the department seems to be least bothered about safety and security of local populace. They said that so far in last nine months at least five minor children were mauled to death by wolves who have unleashed a reign of terror in a number of villages in Kreeri area. "The wild life officials are forcing people to come on roads. The department has not learned lessons from past killings. The pain feels who gets bite," said a local. Previously, wildlife authorities maintained that they were facing problems in eliminating the wolves due to dense meadows and wolves, who are not spotted by the hunters. If by chance hunter spots the killer wolves, presence of humans in crop fields restricts then to open fire on wild animals. Earlier in the month of august, Wild Life Warden North Kashmir, Abdul Rouf Zargar maintained that wild life officials were on job in Sangrama, however the officials are facing hindrances to tackle with these wolves. However the fresh attack comes when visibility seems clear due to cultivation of paddy, maize and other crops. Meanwhile when contacted, Wild Life warden North Kashmir, Abdul Rouf Zargar said, it is not clear that the girl was attacked by a wild animal. "I cannot say that the girl was injured in wild animal attack, she might be attacked by a dog," Zargar said. |
