JAMMU, Oct 9: Some officials in Relief Organization Jammu are found to be more powerful than State Government itself, who secured their postings in department of their choice for years by using all pulls and pressures, allegedly for pecuniary benefits, in-spite of transfer orders' issued against them.
Sources informed Early Times that one such officer was Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Rajesh Sharma, who was holding charge of five sub-divisions including Jammu as well as Kashmir for five years. "On September 14, the State Government issued order of transfer of said engineer at office of Chief Engineer, R&B Jammu, but instead of joining new assignment, the AEE managed his posting at same place", sources said.
"The AEE (PWD, R&B) is working in the Relief Organisation since last five years but due to known reasons of the Relief Commissioner has entrusted for holding charge of five sub-division vis Jagti Nagrota, Purkho- Muthi, Sheikhpora (Budgam), Vessu (Qazigund) and Hall (Shopian)", sources said, adding that in these areas under Prime Minister Re-Construction Programme major projects of worth Rs 700 crore were executed by the AEE.
"Why the charge of five Sub-divisions was given to the said AEE?", sources said, adding that despite joining of new AEE PK Koul the Commissioner, Relief Organisation Migrant has not relieved Sharma. Sources further said that due to pressure from senior bureaucrat, the Relief Commissioner was not relieving the said AEE.
Serious aspersions have been raised on the repeated claims by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to bring transparency in the Government functioning by such incidents of nepotism.
However, when contacted Relief Commissioner, Migrant RK Pandita acknowledged that the Government has ordered transfer of said Engineer. "Some major projects were executed by AEE Rajesh Sharma, he will be relieved after completion the projects", Pandita added.
