| Payment of telephone, electricity bills to be made at post offices in state | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 9: The Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle is all set to extend day to day services like payment of electricity bills and telephone bills at the post offices in the state. The circle is also geared up to deliver driving licenses to the people to their doorstep and this development may take place in near future. Addressing his maiden press conference, Chief Post Master General (CPMG) Jammu & Kashmir, Chandra Prakash said that he would like the postal department to extend more and more services to the people. The CPMG said that the department is already working on improving their services adding that post offices should be looked beyond the prism of receipt and delivery of letters. "Like in the other parts of country we can arrange for the payment of telephone bills, electricity bills and municipal dues at the post offices in the state. There is already a proposal for deliverance of driving licenses to people at their doorstep through the post offices. We have no problem in taking up this challenge and I believe this would be done soon," said Prakash. The CPMG said that as part of National Postal Week (October 9-15) the postal department would organize many programmes in order to present postal services as a complete package for the people in the state. He said the department would extend their existing services so that people get more and more benefits to the residents of state. "During the National Postal Week programmes related to Post Office Savings Bank, Mails, Philately and Business Development would be held in the state to attract people towards the postal services. We want the people to derive more and more benefits from postal services as it would ultimately lead to economic prosperity for them," said Prakash. The CPMG said that modern day services like Speed Post and Express Parcel Service along with traditional services are running smoothly in the state. He said that Speed Post sales have shown a growth of 40 percent in the state during this year with the national level growth rate being 37 percent for the same period. Prakash said the Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle department will hold All India Postal Cricket Tournament from October 21 with the finals being played on October 25. He said the matches of tournament would be played at the cricket stadium and the sports grounds of University of Kashmir. |
