| Encroachments, haphazard parking inviting security threats | | | Arun Trisal
Kathua, Oct 9: Chaos and gloom descends right from the wee hours of the day on the College Road especially in front of the DC office, a place now infamous for encroachment of road and haphazard parking of vehicles posing threat to common people. The administration occasionally wakes up from its slumber, comes down heavily on public and for few days attempt to restore order on the road using coercive measures which has nothing to do with its redressal. It always attempts to cure the symptoms rather than the cause of the problem. "It's an irony that everyday we expose our children to risks which could be easily avoidable" said an elderly woman standing by the road. "The administration responds only when there is a hue and cry from the public and always fails to act on its own" said another bystander. It is well known that after the last militant attacks, Kathua city is on high alert and the intelligence reports suggest some major infiltrations.Places so ill managed like the college road are an easy target for these elements to strike. This problem has also become a security threat now to which our administrators have turned a blind eye and presumably waiting for some untoward incident to happen, it was alleged. The administration had earlier taken a few initiatives in this direction but later buckled under the political pressure. However, "no serious effort has been still taken to address the roots of the problem and public demands some trained and specialist officials to resolve problems affecting the urban populace", said a student of Degree College Kathua. |
