early times report Jammu, Oct 16: To observe the martyrdom of four student leaders in year 1966 against the government decision to shift Agriculture College to Kashmir and discrimination against Jammu, the Jammu Joint Students Federation(JJSF) today started its three days relay fast on the occasion of Martyrs Day at Shaheedi Sthal GGM Science College here today. Early in the morning JJSF activists led by Chairman Kuldeep Singh Chib, president JJSF, Rajinder Singh Munna, Working president Anuj Tandon, Principal GGM Science College, staff members along with students of the college lighted lamp at Shaheedi Sthal and offered garlands at Shaheedi Sthal dedicated to martyrs S Gursharan Singh, Brij Mohan, Gulshan Handa and Subash Chander. Later three activists of JJSF namely S. Baljeet Singh, Sandeep Singh and Jatinder Singh, president JJSF JU unit sat on relay fast at Shaheedi Sthal. Speaking on the occasion, Rajinder Singh Munna said that every year October 16, 17 and 18 are observed as the Martyrs Day in Jammu as in 1966, four of the students namely Brij Mohan, Subash Chander, Gulshan Handa and Guru Charan Singh faced brutal action of the then administration while raising their voice against the discrimination with Jammu region and laid down their lives for the sake of Jammu people. Kuldeep Singh Chib chairman said the discrimination against Jammu region is still continuing and cautioned that a sinister campaign is on to subjugate and divide the people of Jammu further. He added that on October 17 JJSF would organize an Ex-Students, prominent citizens meet to highlight the contributions of the student martyrs at 11:00 am and will perform a Hawan in memory of martyrs at Shaheedi Sthal on October 18 at 11.30 a.m for peace of the martyrs souls. Pushvinder Singh Manhas, Sr Vice President Youth Panthers, Sachin Singh, Shubham Jamwal, Rakesh Sharma, Rahul Bandral, Deepak Hans, Goutam Kumar, Abhishek, Raj Kumar, Vishal Singh Jamwal, Parvesh Kumar and others also participated in this memorial service organized today. Meanwhile various social and student organizations including ABVP, JKDF, NC, NPSU, Youth Panthers and JURSA paid tributes to the martyrs. |
