| Sham Lal makes a startling revelation | | Nationalism vs secessionism | | Neha JAMMU, Oct 16: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control and Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma on Monday made startling revelation that he was being "victimized" by the system because he advocates anti-secessionism line. He made the revelation during a function organized by some Jammulawyers. He did not name any particular leader but left none in any doubt that his attack was directed towards the National Conference (NC), which had been demanding greater autonomy, as well as the votaries of self-rule and expressed the view that the demands like autonomy and self-rule, if accepted, would mean acceptance of the dangerous Dixon Plan and division of Jammu province on communal lines along the Chenab River. He was right. Besides, clearly suggesting that "irresponsible and controversial statements" given by people have been simply promoting secessionism and communalism and emboldening the anti-India forces, he accused certain vested interests of unleashing a vilification campaign against him because he held the view that the people of Jammu province were being discriminated against by the system. "Whenever I raise my voice against the discrimination with Jammu and oppose those who preach secessionism, some forces become active and start defaming me," he was quoted as saying. "He will continue to oppose those who preach secessionism and support anti-national forces," he was also quoted as saying. Sham Lal Sharma has been, it needs to be noted, from time to time making statements which are taken by the Kashmiri leadership to mean an attack on it and the Valley. Some three years ago at Bani in Kathua district, he had demanded trifurcation of the state in the presence of top Congress leaders, including the JKPCC chief, saying there was nothing common between Jammu & Kashmir and between the latter and Ladakh, as while the people of Jammu and Ladakh stood for the state's integration into India and wanted a system that gave Jammu and Ladakh their legitimate due share in the polity, the Valley leadership stood for autonomy and similar other unsettling and divisive solutions. "Give them autonomy but separate us from Kashmir, as we cannot co-exist with those demanding autonomy or putting forth similar demands," he had said. Now that Sham Lal has openly said that he is being "victimized" by the system, it is time for him and similar other leaders in the Congress party to expose those who have vitiated the system. Since he himself is part of the system, he knows who has destroyed it or converted into a tool that the secessionists use to further their sinister agenda. He will gain everything by doing so. |
