Development causes anxiety in rival parties, view this as possible 'game changer'
Congress joining spree by 'stalwarts'

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 16: Even as the joining of some 15 odd 'big wigs' drawn from various parties in Congress two days back has created ripples in the entire political spectrum of the state, the move has in particular caused a sense of anxiety in the rival party BJP for more than one reason. Having put itself in the election mode, thrust being first on the Parliamentary elections, BJP has been forced to go in for a rethink on the strategy, more so with regard to choice of the candidates for the Lok Sabha polls as also with regard to garnering support from various constituencies for two LS seats in Jammu region.
Sources said since majority of the candidates who are said to have joined or contemplating to join formally the Congress belong to Jammu region, this move is being seen as one that of consolidation in various constituencies for the ensuing Parliamentary polls for the Congress which apparently wants to edge over its ally NC and other parties in the race for the two seats. This has perturbed most BJP which is already drumbeating the electoral prospects in its favour riding high on a host of factors, Modi charisma being the prime one on which counts most, sources said. More than the leadership of BJP , it is middle rung functionaries and cadres who are disturbed afresh about the development and worried that any small move of this nature that favours Congress would obviously affect the prospects of BJP in a big way, sources within the party said.
Sources also said the cadres and die hard workers of the BJP are also not pleased with the choice of names for the two seats , though nothing has been finalized as yet. Stalwarts from other parties joining Congress has made it all the imperative for the Central leadership to take the final call with regard to decision on candidates for two seats very carefully , is the strong yearning and feeling among the cadres which they have conveyed to quarters that matter in final selection, sources further said. Grapevine has it to say that for the Jammu-Poonch seat incumbent president Jugal Kishore is the front runner while as for the Udhampur-Kathua seat Prof Nirmal Singh's name is among strong contenders.
Even though the party is claiming high stakes for both the seats and projecting victory of BJP this time as foregone conclusion, besides the Congress joining spree by stalwarts wielding political clout in many constituencies that matter for two seats , there are other main unattended factors which the committed cadres want Central leadership to address, if it is serious in the outcome of LS polls this time. Sources said majority view is in favour of taking a decision on 7 expelled MLAs that would ensure their dignified return in the party fold and eventually the move would have wider ramifications in favour of the party in LS polls.
