| Congress-NC alliance under threat | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 16: Despite PCC Chief, Prof.Saif-ud-Din Soz's denial that the Congress had resorted to poaching from various other political parties both the NC and the PDP leaders were apprehensive of the Congress move which could further pollute the political atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir. Senior NC and PDP leaders today said that the Congress was trying to recreate an era of Aaya Rams and Gaya Rams in the state. A senior NC leder said that the Congress was capable of commiting any political mischief by luring leaders from non-Congress organizations. He referred to the 1984 events and said that Congress was responsible for engineering defections in the NC which had led to the fall of the duly elected Government led by Farooq Abdullah. In an interview Soz had admitted that some PDP and NC leaders were planning to join the Congress but had denied that the Congress had resorted to poaching. Soz had hinted that stalwarts from other political groups were also waiting in the wings to join the party. He has said the decision to induct them would be taken at an appropriate time.NC leaders were not ready to accept Soz's plea saying that the Congress was not baiting non-Congress leaders. They referred to a remark from Soz in which he has said that "It is just the beginning, wait for some time. Many leaders from other parties will join the Congress in the days to come.""People are themselves approaching to join the Congress. We are not luring them," Soz claimed. Notwithstanding Soz's claim, the Congress-NC alliance has entered into a new phase of conflict and tussle. This is evident from a report that says the NC and PDP leaders too were busy in wooing Congress workers and leaders to their side. And if this materialized, the survival of the NC-Congress alliance can be in danger. |
