early times report
Jammu, Oct 16: Citizens Forum has expressed serious concern over standoff between the residents and shopkeepers in Gandhi Nagar on one hand and the government authorities viz JDA and ERA over the proposed project of constructing parking lot at the green patch in the center of Gole market Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
In a joint statement issued here today R K Chadha President of the forum and others have suggested a viable alternative, to addressed the problem of parking lot as well as maintaining the green patch at the place in the area. "Instead of converting the present green patch in the Gole Market, by converting into multi storey, underground parking lot should be created at the spot, while green patch should be developed at almost the same height. It has suggested that on the pattern of Palika Bazaar at Cannought Place New Delhi, the basement of the park should be developed as a parking, statement said.
The signatories to the statement have contended that besides the green patch in the center of the Gole Market, there are also patches of vacant lands on the left and right hand of the park facing Apsara Road that too should be developed in such a way that underground parking lots are created and green parks are developed on the main ground."
The forum has also expressed concern over the once posh residential cum commercial Gandhi Nagar fast converting into concrete jungle, with hardly breathing space left for the residents as well as the shoppers in the area.
The forum also has suggested to make mandatory for owners of residential buildings in Gandhi Nagar who want to set up commercial establishments first to create parking lots.
The signatories to the statement, said the authorities, at present only take into confidence some vested interests who misguided them about any development project and the corrupt among the authorities and the vested interests form unholy nexus to mint money out of the development and public utility projects.
