Policemen injured in clashes over woman's cremation

Rajouri, Oct 16: 5 policemen were injured in a clashes with relatives and family members of a married woman who died on Monday at her parents' house.
The woman was reportedly not properly looked after when fell sick at her in-laws' house.
The relatives and family members along with some supporters took the body to the in-laws village and cremated her in front of their house and the clash took place when they tried to throw Mohinder Singh, husband of the woman in her pyre.
In a clash that followed when police ,while trying to save the husband from the clutches of the villagers and relatives of the deceased, 5 policemen were injured including police post in-charge and two of them were later referred to government medical college hospital at Jammu.
Sources said that Sushma Devi resident of Rah Siot was married to a driver Mohinder Singh of village Beinala (Triyath) under Dharamshal police station about three years ago.
She was sick for the last one year and was not properly treated by her husband and in-laws. About 6 months ago she came to her parents' house and was under treatment but died on Monday.
The family members, villagers and supporters of the family decided to take the body to her in-laws house to show their resentment against alleged neglect on part of in-laws.
On Monday after reaching at Beinala first they demanded the return of the dowry items and gold of the girl and later they prepared her pyre in front of the in-laws house and cremated her.
During cremation people also damaged the house items and thrashed the members of the family of her in-laws including her husband.
Apprehending more trouble villagers informed the police and a police party from Triyath police post lead by Sub Inspector Tilak Raj rushed to the house and tried to pacify woman's relatives.
A scuffle broke out between police and family of the woman to save the husband from their clutches.
In the ensuing scuffle all the policemen were injured before the police party from Dharamshal police station could reach there.
Later after the villagers came to the support of Mohinder's family and they made host about 50 persons from the woman's side including two sarpanches and brother of the girl.
On getting information about the clash Pardeep Goria, SDPO , Noushera also reached the spot and rescued the persons from girl side.
Meanwhile police took into custody Yashpal Singh , Surjeet Singh , sarpanches of Bajnol and Rahsiot, ashok Kumar, chairman Bajwal panchyat ,Davinder Singh and Ranjeet Singh brother and relatives of the girl .
Police has registered a case under sections 307 Attempt to murder), 353, 147, and 323 RPC against 10 persons including five who were arrested.
Other five who are still at large have been identified as Bnidu Khajuria,Sat Pal, Deepak Kumar, Sita Ram and Onkar Singh. Tilak Raj ,Police Post in-charge, and Rashpal Singh, special police officer (SPO) later shifted to GMC hospital at Jammu while other policemen identified as constableRamesh Chander and SPO Subhash Chander were admitted in a hospital at Noushera.
