Self-styled J&K experts speaking separatists' language
At the cost of nation

JAMMU, Oct 18: There are many persons outside Jammu and Kashmir who say they are experts in the State affairs and their solutions, if accepted would end unrest in Kashmir and resolve the so-called Kashmir problem on a permanent basis. One such expert is Dileep Padgaonkar, former chief interlocutor, who has been hailing the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for passing a resolution against former Army chief General VK Singh. General Singh had made certain startling disclosures during an interview to TIMES NOW following a report in a leading English language national daily that the Army, at the behest of former Army chief, had bribed Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir in Omar Abdullah's coalition Government to destabilize the State Government. The report had said that the Army paid Rs 1.19 crore to the Agriculture Minister to bring off a coup against the Omar Abdullah Government. General Singh and Ghulam Hassan Mir have rubbished the report as complete non-sense.
Hailing the State legislature for adopting the resolution, Padgaonkar said: "Legislative Assembly has right to seek explanation from Singh because his remarks and comments have done serious damage to the democratic set-up of India. The decision of the Assembly would stop other people from uttering 'rubbish' in future". He did not stop just there. He went on to say that "there is a need to address the political aspirations of people of Kashmir". "No doubt, there are social, economic and other issues as well, but the main issue is political and Government of India must address it," he said while making common cause with separatists in Kashmir.
To be more exact, Padgaonkar reiterated his old stand, thus creating an impression that Jammu and Kashmir is an unsettled issue. By political issue he clearly meant that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and the three parties to it are India, Pakistan and Kashmir. He had no place whatsoever for Jammu and Ladakh in his scheme of things and it also becomes clear from the report he, along with two other interlocutors, Radha Kumar and MM Ansari, submitted to the Union Home Ministry on October 12, 2011. Even a cursory look at the report would enable everyone to reach the conclusion that the interlocutors had utter disregard for the sensitivities and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Ladakh and their report was out-and-out Kashmir and one-sect-centric.
As a matter of fact, the interlocutors had made their intentions public during their first visit to Srinagar immediately after their appointment. They visited Srinagar in October itself, interacted with various people and delegations, besides some students of Kashmir University, and not just listened to their views but also shared their views with them as well. In Kashmir University, for instance example, Padgaonkar and Radha met with a number of students to ascertain their views on the so-called Kashmir problem and asked them what could lead to the resolution of the issue. Some students told the interlocutors that "Azadi" alone could resolve the Kashmir issue and help restore peace in the region on a permanent basis.
What was the response of the interlocutors? Padgaonkar asked the students to prepare what he called "roadmap of Azadi" so that it could be discussed with them during their next visit to Kashmir. Radha Kumar, on the other hand, told the Kashmir University students that she would ask the Government of India to amend the Constitution of India so that their "Azadi demand could be accommodated". She told them "the Indian Constitution was quite flexible and she had no doubt whatever that the Government of India would accept the Azadi formulation to resolve the Kashmir issue and respect the aspirations of the people of Kashmir". That Dileep Padgaonkar and Radha Kumar did not succeed in their sinister game plan is a different issue. They did not succeed because their suggestions had evoked a very strong reaction from the people of Jammu province as well as the nation as a whole and like the BJP opposed their nasty suggestions tooth and nail.
It is disgusting that we have in India persons like Dileep Padgaonkar who do not mind outraging the feelings and sensitivities of the people who long for a reform that helps them merge with the national mainstream completely and lead a dignified life as respectable Indians under the constitutional framework.
