Choudhary Aslam re-elected CLP leader, Niaz Dy leader in House
'Move' washes away aspirations of two Ministers

ET Report
Jammu, Oct 18: In what can be seen as move by J&K PCC leadership to dispel aspirations of some to 'grab' the post and rule out the possibility of any replacement for the incumbent leader, Choudhary Mohammad Aslam, the octogenarian Congress stalwart was today unanimously re-elected the CLP leader. A new development that came as surprise for many is the creation of Deputy Leader for the same post for the first time which is also seen as reducing to nil the 'desire' of a couple of leaders to be a replacement for Choudhary Aslam. Mohammad Sharif Niaz has been declared as the deputy CLP leader.
Sources said a meeting of Legislators was today called by the PCC president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz at Hotel Broadway to specifically discuss the issue following some 'unrest' going on within certain quarters who were strongly favouring , rather pressing for changing the incumbent CLP leader , who is reported to be not keeping good health for some time. Sources said after thorough deliberations and consideration of certain aspects having political connotations, majority of the legislators were of the opinion it would not be proper to have some other leader on the post , even though re election of the leader is a mandatory and required step keeping in view the elections next year and the vitality of the role of the leader for important decision making related to polls.
After weighing political pos and cons, Choudhary Mohammad Aslam, hailing from Rajouri district was re-elected as the CLP leader , sources said, adding that Niaz's name came up unanimously for the post of Deputy leader, even though there is no precedence within the party to have such a post in the House. Sources said the move of re-electing the CLP leader after some senior leaders, who are currently Ministers in the Omar led Cabinet were vying and almost in race to get their name 'clicked' for the post. One of the Ministers belong to Kashmir while as the other is from Jammu region. However, today's unanimous nod to continuance of Choudhary Aslam 'washed away' the chances for now and for future as well as this has been 'sealed' with another move of recommending the name of Niaz for the Deputy post. Sources said if under any circumstances it was warranted to have a replacement, Niaz would be elevated for the post of CLP leader, much to dismay who were aspirants for the same.
