ET Report JAMMU, Oct 18: The upcoming Darbar move from summer capital to winter capital will be crucial for all political parties in Jammu and Kashmir as it will be the last opportunity to give Jammu what it deserves ahead of crucial Assembly elections of 2014. For the past five years, the Omar Abdullah led National Conference-Congress coalition Government has given nothing to the people of the region. They have been deprived of even basic amenities like food, water, social and personal security. People have developed a sentiment that Government only works for those people who have some say in the society and common people don't get anything. Even the local Ministers of Jammu region, irrespective of religion, have failed the people on all the fronts. Mostly they were found appeasing the people of Valley to keep their chairs intact. The situation in Jammu has gone from bad to worse in almost every field. Crime rate has increased, terror incident again hovered over the plains of Jammu, unemployment increased and much more, but the Omar Abdullah Government did nothing for the common people. Now, the question is why people should vote for any of the leaders cutting across party line. Almost all parties were tried and tested, starting from Congress to Bharatiya Janta Party, National Conference to People’s Democratic Party and Panthers to Jammu State Mocrha but no one proved beneficial for the region. People of Jammu region have been discriminated in the name of employment, basic amenities, security and every thing which a common man needs to enjoy the life at its fullest in limited resources. The condition of roads has deteriorated, health care is nowhere, sports is lacking basic infrastructure, education policy is in shambles, drinking water is nowhere and much more. This coalition Government is alone responsible for all these things and the local members of Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council are the biggest culprits and they should introspect that they will not get votes all because they belong to a particular party. People are not so dumb that they will vote without knowing the actual ground position. |
