Pakistani troops resort to heavy shelling on LoC, IB
10 Indian posts targetted, 2 BSF jawans injured

JAMMU, Oct 18: Pakistani troops today resorted to heavy firing and shelling along the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports said heavy shelling was reported from the RS Pura and Akhnoor sectors. The Pakistan rangers resorted to firing on International Border at Suchetgarh, RS Pura at 11 pm on Thursday night which remained continued till 2 am. The same was retaliated by the BSF jawans. In the incriminating firing, 2 BSF jawans received bullet injuries in Nikowal BoP. The injured have been been identified as Constable Gangan Thakur and Hasda of 193 battalion of BSF. They were rushed to the GMC hospital for treatment. A senior police officer giving information said, “Violating the ceasefire, the Pakistani rangers fired on border outposts and forward civilans areas along International Border in RS Pura,Pargwal,Samba,Jugnu Chak areas of Jammu and Samba. He furether said that they resorted to firing along IB in Khartoka, Kharkal, AMK, Mangral of RS Pura sector, Regal and Rajpora in Samba sector and Nikowal BoP, adding, heavy exchange of firing was still on in Jugnu Chak of RS Pura sector and Nikowal forward areas of Pargwal sub sector”.
Reports said that the Pakistan used mortar shell which created panic among the residents of border as bullet hit their houses. Sources said that in the ensuing firing, a Pakistan ranger also received bullet injuries. After the gap of eight hours the Pakistan again started firing on IB, which remained continued till the last report poured in. The retaliation on the part of BSF was also in progress. No loss of life is reported in the ensuing firing.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Rangers had yesterday also resorted to unprovoked firing on forward Indian border outposts during suspected movement of some persons along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu district at Pargwal sector on LOC , prompting retaliation from BSF troops.
Pertinent to mention here that on October 16, Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire thrice in the Kamalkote forward area of Uri, Krishna Gati and Bhimbher Gali sub-sectors of Poonch district and Mangu Chak and Khatav Border Out posts along International Border in Samba district.
On October 15, Lance Naik MF Khan of 15 Bihar regiment was killed when Pakistani troops opened fire at Indian forward posts in Hamirpur-Balakote sub-sector in Poonch district.
On the same day, Pakistani Army had shelled mortars and fired from small arms in forward areas along LoC in Hamirpur and Bhimbher Gali sub-sectors of Poonch district.
On October 14, BSF Constable M Basu was injured when Pakistani troops resorted to firing on Katav Border Out Post along the International Border in Samba district.
In Islamabad, a military source claimed that a Pakistan Rangers' jawan was killed in firing by BSF troops along the LoC. The incident took place in Chaprar sector. "Firing was carried out by BSF post Kharkola," the source claimed.
