| Unauthorized use of Domestic LPG goes unabated | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kathua, Oct 18 : The illegal use of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for commercial purposes still is continued in Kathua and consumers are forced to feel the burnt while the concerned authorities yet have to awake from slumber. Despite ban on commercial use of domestic LPG, the black marketing of LPG is on in Kathua as some are using in vehicles and others are using these at their business establishments related to food and other allied sector the black marketing of LPG is on and distributors continue to sell cylinders to local shopkeepers. As per locals several restaurants, hotels and dhabas are using domestic cylinders in violation of the rules set by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD) while poor quality LPG kits are being fitted in school vans, posing a threat to the life of schoolchildren. Despite repeated complaints to authorities concerned in this regard and shortage of domestic LPG the authorities remained a mute spectator and virtually failed no step to redress the problem. "The use of domestic gas cylinders in commercial purposes creates two pronged problems it at one hand results in shortage of LPG while causing huge loss to government exchequer," said Ajay Sharma. While the commercial units are using the subsidized LPG meant for common people the people are facing shortage particularly in the rural areas. |
