Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 20: Implementing the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Rural Backyard Poultry, the Department of Animal Husbandry (AH) distributed one month old Low-technology Poultry birds to 175 Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste community of Mera-Mandrian, Tanda, Kotli Hari Singh, Nardi and Ganderwan Panchavats in Block Akhnoor. Elaborating upon the scheme, the Poultry Development Officer, Jammu, Dr. Pran Koul, said that out of 966 BPL beneficiaries, all have been given 15 birds each in the first phase. In the second phase too, 716 beneficiaries have been given 15 birds while the remaining 250 BPL beneficiaries are being provided birds in the rest of this financial year. Besides, this each beneficiary has been provided with a cash assistance of Rs 750 for making a night shelter for the birds. It was impressed upon by the Poultry Extension Officer, Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Koul that the process of identification of beneficiaries is done after following all the laid out guidelines, in consultation with the local Panchayat officials and all the birds are immunized against the deadly diseases. Stressing upon the importance of the scheme, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Jammu, Dr. R K Raina exhorted the beneficiaries to take advantage of this poor- friendly scheme. |
