| What have Congress MLAs done for Jammu? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 20: Have the Congress party MLAs who were elected to the State Legislature by the people off Jammu worked according to the party manifesto, which they released ahead of the 2008 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, is the biggest question that people of Jammu will confront them with in 2014. Not that the two MPs from Jammu region, who belong to Congress will not be grilled by the people for not taking up the issues of people of Jammu at the highest democratic forum of the country. The Congress party had 18 MLAs in 87-member J&K legislative Assembly and became the part of coalition government with National Conference on January 5, 2009 when Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the Chief Minister. The Congress party got equal share in the State Council of Ministers with important portfolios but many believe, Congress did little to address issues of the people of Jammu and was happy playing second fiddle to the NC ministers. The Congress Ministers who put in noteable work remained confined to their constituencies and delivered more as MLAs than Ministers. People of Jammu were more anguished by the stoic silence that congress ministers assumed when issues that were related with their sentiments and future of Jammu came up. The inaccessibility of the Congress Ministers added on to the annoyance. Now, Congress MLAs and Ministers have much to explain ahead of the 2014 Assembly election and they will have to show their report card to people when they return to them for fresh mandate. But going by the facts and figures, the Congress party has little to show and convince the electorate that they deserve another chance. |
