Day 3, Shutdown; clashes continue in Baramulla
Normalcy returns to Palhalan

Srinagar, Oct 20: Complete shutdown was observed amid clashes for third day on Sunday against the arrest of youths on charges of stone pelting. Meanwhile normal life resumed in Palhalan Township.
Reports said, shops and other business establishments remained closed on Sunday after youths come out at different spots and started stone pelting on shops enforcing shutdown.
Three youths were injured one among them critically On Saturday evening clashes. Umar Altaf Malik son of Muhammad Altaf Malik of Baramulla who had sustained pellet injuries on face and was shifted to a Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment. While as two others were discharged after they got hospitalized at Baramulla Hospital.
Police arrested some youths at different places following intense clashes on Friday in the town.
Sources said, around six youths have been detained so far on charges of stone pelting in Baramulla town. While some of them were released ,two were still under detention.
"During the nocturnal raid police aimed to arrest Parvaiz Ahmad son of Abdul Ahad of Ganaie Hamam, but neighbours gathered in large number and put up resistence which forced police to leave the spot" sources said.
Witnesses said, carts of fruit and vegetable vendors were also damaged during the night by some unknown persons. Police however termed it a handy work of stone pelters.
While talking with Early Times, Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Zubair Ahmad Khan, ruled out hand of police for causing damage to carts and accused stone Pelters of maligning the image of police and evade arrests.
Meanwhile life returned to normal in Palhalan Township after remaining under restrictions four days.
Reports said, shops and business establishments resumed their business as usual. Deputy commissioner Baramulla Khaja Ghulam Ahmad had on Saturday asked people of Palhalan to resume their normal business. Pertinently, police and CRPF imposed restriction in Palhalan after intense clashes between police and youths when a police driver died in an accident on Oct 06 after a police bus carrying police recruits was allegedly stoned in the area. Meanwhile police have registered a case against the stone pelters vide FIR number264/2013 under section 302, 153, 153B and 120A of RPC.
