| Omar incenses border villagers | | After Gool, Kishtwar | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 20: Residents of border villages, who have been hit by Pak firing and pounding, and have shifted to safer places, are incensed over the absence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The Chief Minister has till now only expressed concern, that too in Srinagar, but has not visited any of the villages affected by Pakistan firing. "Where is Omar Abdullah? Is he the Chief Minister of Kashmir or Jammu and Kashmir… isn't his moral duty to visit us and know how we are going through this tough time," said Rameshwar Sharma, resident of border village in Pargwal sector, which is being pounded regularly by the Pakistan. The anger Rameshwar reflects the feelings on the ground in places of Jammu region, which are once again going through the pre 2003 time. Omar had till now only said the intentions of the Pakistan didn't seem good as it is now targeting civilian population. But his own absence from the affected villages puts a question mark on his intention about the safety of the people. Omar Abdullah is heading a Congress supported coalition government. Prominent Congress ministers have visited the places right up to the ground zero. They have galvainised the district administration and also asked them to put in place the contingency plan. The theory, though an alibi, given by the people close to the CM, is that it doesn't send a right political message if Omar visits the places which are represented by the Cong minister and also issues directions to the district administration. "Is Omar a CM or just a Cabinet Minister holding about 10 departments? How does his coming here affect the relation with coalition partner? These are just lame excuses. He is the head of the Govt and it's his responsibility to visit there," said a senior Cong Minister. It's not that CM is not visiting places represented by the Cong .He has been holding political rallies at many places which are not represented by the NC but its coalition partner but there he sees a political opportunity. There is pattern of Omar's absence at places in Jammu which have been affected by one way or other. He didn't visit Gool and also remained absent from Kishtwar. He was rather forced to make short trip to Jammu after terrorist strike. Omar by his action is clearly reflecting his thinking which is to become a representative of just people of Kashmir, where ironically his party is already sliding down. |
