| Political reservation, sanction of sub-plan for OBCs demanded | | | et report Rajouri, Oct 20: Representatives of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) today demanded a separate sub-plan for the community and called for reservation in jobs and admissions at par with others states of the country. As per a statement OBC district body today held a meeting at Kote Ranka Budhal here under the chairmanship Abdul Majeed Qureshi which was attended by a large number of OBC community people. On the occasion, district president of the body, Abdul Majeed Qureshi said that the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities have been given special sub plan but the OBC people have been ignored. He demanded sanction of an extensive sub plan for their overall development. Qureshi further demanded enhancement of reservation for the community in jobs and admissions in Jammu and Kashmir at par with other states. "According to the caste based census of 1931, the population of OBC was more than 35 percent but only 2 percent reservation has been given to them by the state government on nomenclature of other social castes. This is a great injustice and the community needs to be given reservation at par with the Central Government which 27 percent, so that these poor and deserving people could also be benefited," he added. Qureshi also demanded reservation in both the houses of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative council for the OBC community. "There is no representation from OBC in either of the houses in the state legislature although they constitute more than one-fourth of the total population of Jammu and Kashmir", he said He lamented that the government has provided reservation to SC, ST and women in Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and Municipal Committees and in Panchayats but no reservation has been kept for OBC in these institutions. The OBC members also demanded opening of OBC hostels in all districts of the state apart from issuance of OBC certificates instead of OSC certificates. Implement Mendel Commission Report, Increase Reservation 2% to 27% as per other state. Those other spoke on this occasion include Abdul Rashid Shaheen , Fazal Hussain, Haji Arif, Barkit Hussain and others. |
