Sports reporter JAMMU, Oct 20: With a comfortable win in the opening day, hosts Jammu Frontier today became the first team to qualify for the knock-out stages of the 37th BSF Inter-Frontier Hockey Tournament at K K Hakhu Stadium, here. In a group-D match, Jammu Frontier outplayed Guwahati by four goals to one. Since there were only two teams in group-D of the league round, Jammu Frontier made it to the knock-out stages winning the first match today. Other winning teams on the opening day were North Bengal and Punjab. The Results: Jammu bt Guwahati 4-1; North Bengal bt Meghalaya 3-1; Punjab bt Triputa 4-3; South Bengal holds Kashmir to 0-0 draw. In all, 11 teams representing as many Frontiers of the BSF are taking part in this five-day long championship on league-cum-knockout basis. The participating teams are North Bengal, Punjab, South Bengal, Guwahati, Meghalaya, Tripura, M&C, Jammu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Kashmir. Earlier, the competition was declared open by Inspector General of BSF Jammu Frontier, S S Tomar, who was chief guest in the inaugural function. |
