| Congress seeks relief, rehab for migrating border villagers | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 24: The state government is contemplating to take up issue of providing safer temporary places for the residents of border villages hit by continuous firing by the Pakistan. Congress ministers have taken up the matter of this human suffering with chief minister and have asked him to take the issue formally with the Centre. "We have asked the state government to take up the matter with the Centre. It's matter of grave urgency and has to be resolved at the earliest and can't be delayed," said a Cong minister. The State government is taking some time to watch the developments and if the things along the border do not cool in immediate future then a formal request would be made to the Centre. Congress ministers have made this demand as people in the border have been badly hit and they are not able to lead normal life. They are furious over the fact that while in the past such an arrangement was made for the people of Akhnoor hit by Kargil war it hasn't been extended to the entire belt of border in Jammu region. The Centre is also keeping tab on the situation and would first like the state government to come up with the comprehensive proposal. Congress ministers and legislators know the fact that with the elections round the corner the issue could boil over if proper attention is not given in time and could spoil its chances of emerging as the single largest party. The party has also asked government to offer compensation to the victims of the border firing at the earliest |
