| Decisions taken in previous LA session await implementation | | Monthly allowance for Village Heads still a distant dream | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Oct 24: Decisions taken in the previous assembly session according to the village heads have not been implemented as the long pending demand of monthly allowances of village heads remains a distant dream. The monthly allowances for village heads was discussed in the previous assembly session held at Jammu and politicians from almost all the political parties supported a monthly allowance of Rs 2000 for the village heads. However, the decision remains confined to books till date. Mohammad Javaid, member of Panchayat coordination committee Leh district of Kargil division says that though they are yet to receive the allowance from the state government. However, Ladakh Panchayat coordination committee has rejected the proposal of state government keeping in view the increasing rate of inflation. They have suggested paying the Village heads of Ladakh division on the pattern of councilor members of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC). "Councilors and Executive Councilors are paid Rs 30,000 and 85,000 monthly respectively, then why government hesitates to pay us Rs 2000 and 1000 respectively and why not on the pattern of councilors," said Mohammad Javaid. According to the vice president of all Jammu and Kashmir panchayat conference (AJKPC) Abdul Majeed Mir, political parties who are geared up these days for the forthcoming assembly elections which benefits their own pockets at the end of the day and use 73rd amendment as an issue to accuse each other are actually trying to befool the common masses of the state by showing sympathy towards them but the reality is that this government has actually failed to put in practice at ground level what they discussed in previous assembly. Chief Patron of AJKPC, Ghulam-ud-Din Gulshan said that as per his reports village heads of Jammu division have been paid monthly allowances, however, in Kashmir officials at BDO rank are creating hurdles. Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar said that monthly allowances has been released already in favour of village heads of all the three divisions of the state and any BDO rank official found involved in delaying the payment will be punished strictly. |
