SRINAGAR, Oct 24: The J&K Legislative Assembly on Thursday issued a show cause Notice to Retired General VK Singh, former Chief of Army Staff where-under he has been asked to explain his position regarding certain revelations made by him during the course of an interview on September 23.
The Spokesperson of J&K Legislative Assembly in a statement issued here said that the Assembly Secretariat under the orders of the Speaker, Mubarak Gul issued the notice in response to a Breach of Privilege Notice given by 15 Ministers/ Members against him.
The Spokesperson said that VK Singh has been given 20 days- time to explain his position in the matter so that further course of action could be decided under the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the J&K Legislative Assembly. Pertinently, the former Army Chief in an interview with a private news channel had claimed that Army has been funding mainstream politicians in JK since 1947.
His revelations had brought a political storm in the state following which the state assembly adopted a resolution seeking a time bound inquiry into the revelations made by the former army chief retired General VK Singh last month about the army funding to J&K ministers.
However, Speaker, Mubarak Gul had reserved his ruling about the privilege motion against Singh saying "The house has adopted the resolution however I reserve my decision about the motion".
A privilege motion against Singh was moved by both ruling and opposition parties some days back. Today the Speaker issued to Singh asking him to explain his position within 20 days.
Pertinently Singh had revealed a number of things about the J&K ministers after a defence ministry report was leaked. He had said that J&K ministers are being funded by army since 1947. He had named Ghulam Hassan Mir, state agriculture minister, alleging he had received Rs 1.19 crores from army.
