| Goni's exit has jolted NC, Party wiped out in Bhaderwah | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 24: The National Conference (NC) has been wiped out in Bhaderwah after senior leader, Mohammad Aslam Goni opted out of the party to join Congress recently. Goni was the only leader from Bhaderwah in NC who had some say in the area but after he left and joined Congress party to strengthen the hands of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, NC has been almost wiped out from Bhaderwah. Now, the NC in district Doda is only visible in Doda Assembly segment where Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy has kept the flame of NC burning since his father's death. Though he also has lost the credibility and people's support, but still he enjoys some support from a few pockets. The entire erstwhile Doda district once used to be a stronghold of NC and got maximum seats from the area in Assembly elections but now the situation is such that out of six, it only has some say in Kishtwar where former Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo is keeping the flame burning. Goni was a close associate of NC president Farooq Abdullah but after 2008 Assembly elections, when Omar Abdullah became the Chief Minister, he was sidelined by close associates of Omar, including Devender Singh Rana. Goni was made political advisor to NC president Farooq Abdullah but he was never consulted in any decision making. His was pushed to the wall by few NC men. As per his words, he was feeling suffocated in the party due to its policies and practices. Actually he was very unhappy on Rana's position in the party and after Rana became the provincial president, Goni was almost thrown out of party. Sources said that Farooq Abdullah still had some soft corner for Goni as the later knows many things about the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) president and his working and other things. His exit from party has surely given a setback to Farooq Abdullah and his close associates. Now, in 2014 elections, NC will not have any base in Bhaderwah and Goni's absence will be felt by the party. |
