| Infighting in BJP intensified as many leaders stake claims for Lok Sabha seats | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 24: With the starting of the countdown for Lok Sabha elections, infighting in the "disciplined" BJP has also intensified as number of aspirants for two Lok Sabha seats namely Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda have been swelling with every passing day. There is a feeling among BJP leaders that any Tom Dick and Harry can easily win Lok Sabha elections due to strong wave in favour of Narendra Modi. So every leader has been staking claims for party mandates. Insiders in the BJP said that state president Jugal Kishore is front runner for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha and Dr Nirmal Singh is for Udhampur-Doda but some leaders are working overtime to sabotage their chances of getting mandates. Insiders said that party leaders, those who have been opposing mandates for Jugal Kishore and Nirmal Singh, are in constant touch with a senior central leader who would be instrumental in allotting party mandates in Lok Sabha elections. For Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat as many as half a dozen candidates are in fray. Similarly for Udhampur-Doda seat, numbers are almost same. And most important of all some leaders who have not contested even Panchayats or Urban Local Bodies elections are also staking their claims on Lok Sabha seat. BJP leaders are very much aware that RSS would play a deciding role in allotting mandates so they have also started developing good rapport with Sangh Parivar also. These days many BJP leaders were seen attending RSS function to impress Sangh Parivar. Insiders further said that BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is aware of the potentials of BJP leaders of Jammu and Kashmir so it is possible that Modi may himself intervene in selecting candidates in Jammu. In 2002 when by election for the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat were held due to death of sitting BJP Lok Sabha member late Vaid Vaishno Dutt, a senior BJP leader tried to impress Modi, who was incharge of Jammu and Kashmir BJP at that time, but he was exposed before Modi who was national general secretary of the party at that time. The same leader is also trying for getting mandate this time from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat. |
