Jammu hosting National Fencing C’ship in Dec

JAMMU, Nov 6: Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Fencing Association is hosting 24th Senior National Fencing Championship at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here from December 18 to December 23.
To raise a competitive team for the competition, the Association has initiated a two-day selection process on November eight and November nine at MA Stadium, here. The trials shall take place from 3 pm onwards at the given venue.
Interested fencers have been advised to report the venue along with own electric equipment. For further queries one can contact fencing coach of the State Sports Council, Shotu Lal Sharma (9419291430) and Ajay Khartol (9796200601).

J&K takes on Goa in Ranji opener today

SRINAGAR, Nov 6: Jammu and Kashmir shall be playing against visiting Goa side in the opening match of the Ranji Trophy at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, here tomorrow.
To gear up for the four-day competition, both the teams had lengthy net sessions today. While host J&K team was already camping at the venue for the last some time, Goa arrives Srinagar on November two.
The reason behind early arrival of Goa team was to acclimatize with the weather conditions, an official of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) said.
The visitors will be announcing their playing eleven only tomorrow morning, while J&K has already announced the 15-member squad.
Hosts J&K has high hopes from young brigade of in-form Shubam Khajuria, skipper, Parvez Rasool, vice-captain, Ian Dev Singh, Manik Gupta and Ram Dayal.
The J&K Squad: Shubham Khajuria, Adil Reshi, Parvez Rasool (Captain), Owais Shah, Ian Dev Singh (vice-captain), Hardeep Singh, Bandeep Singh, Manik Gupta, Waseem Raza, Mohammad Mudassir, Ram Dayal, Obaid Haroon (wicket-keeper), Majid Dar, Sami Ullah Beigh and Mohsin Iqbal.



Jakh Club lifts Samba Volleyball trophy

JAMMU, Nov 6: Volleyball Club Jakh clinched the maiden Open District Samba title beating Volleyball Club Swankha in a well contested final that lasted for full five sets in front of a healthy gathering of spectators at Government Higher Secondary School, Jakh in Samba.
Winning the opening close set 27-25, Jakh spikers could not bear the pressure from Sawankha boys thereby lost two consecutive sets to go down 1-2. However, the hosts Jakh boys fought back and clinched the remaining sets, rather easily, to make it a 3-2 win. The score: 27-25, 22-25, 24-26, 25-16 and 15-12.
In the final and valedictory function, former Minister and MLA, Surjit Singh Slathia was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes.
President of Volleyball Association of J&K, Raj Daljua presented best player trophies to Mukesh of Jakh Club and Ankush of Swankha Club.
Prominent among others present were general secretary of the Association, Kuldeep Magotra, Romesh Sharma and R K Sharma.
Earlier, eight teams, representing different clubs, took part in this two-day championship on knock-out basis.
The competition was officiated by qualified referee, Mulkh Raj Sharma and organising secretary, Balwinder Singh.


YSCC to conduct "Hunt for Fast Bowlers" under "King of Speed Programme"

JAMMU, Nov 6: The Young Star Cricket Club (YSCC) Doda, is going to conduct the "King of Speed" programme,while talking to media persons, Patron YSCC Doda Mr Manzoor Ahmed Batt said that our club is going to conduct a huge event for fast bowlers to overcome a shortage of quality quick bowlers in the J&K state as well as in the country under the "King of Speed" programme, the YSCC will seek out bowlers and the speed would be checked by speed gun for a special training camp with legendary cicketers. The contest, which culminates on january hopes to give the unrecognised talent a platform to achieve national and ultimately international recognition.The stakes are substational and a chance to represent one's country is a young cricketer's ultimate dream.This contest would be a big boost to all speed merchants in J&K as well as in country.
The "King of Speed" camps will be setup in various districts of J&K like Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Srinagar, Anantanag, Pulwama, Kupwara, Budgam, Baramulla, Shopian, Kupwara, Ganderbal and Bandipora on different dates and the trials will be held in three phases," Batt said. Moreover, among all the districts a coordination committee will be framed for supervising this event. First phase will be held at district level , second phase is going to be held at province level and third phase will be of state level in different categories under 14,16,19,22 & open. Among these categories 3 cricketers would be selected from 14, 3 cricketers from 16, 7 cricketers from 19, 7 cricketers from 22 and also 7 cricketers from open .These slected twenty would be given a special training under the Legendary international cricketers for 15 days in Jammu. These selected fast bowlers in each district will travel in different states for a period od two years contract with YSCC Doda under the special training camp for time to time
Batt appealed to Chief Minister J&K Mr Omar Abdullah, President Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Dr. Farooq Abdullah and all other private and govt. agencies to provide sponsorship for this mega event to make this successful and life time memorable. Stadium XI bags senior women trophy
Deshmesh Club wins Baba Fateh hockey tourney

JAMMU, Nov 6: Beating Young Star Simbal Camp 7-2, Deshmesh Club Nanak Nagar lifted the Ist Baba Fateh Singhji Memorial Hockey Tournament trophy, the final of which played at K K Hakhu Stadium, here today.
Rakesh emerged as star striker from the winning team, who struck thrice to help his side make it a big win in the title clash. Rakesh sounded the board in the 29th, 47th and 50th minute.
Charanjeet contributed two goals to the team's tally beating the guard at the net in the 12th and 19th minute. Sarabjit (15th) and Satwant (63rd) were other scorers. From Young Star, Jasbir Singh and Bharat scored the goals in the 48th and 55th minutes of the match.
The final was officiated by the technical penal including S P Singh, Iqbal Singh, Jagjeet Singh, JS Reen and GS Bakshi.
Meanwhile, the Second Senior Women's title trophy went to Stadium XI after they blanked Army Public School (APS) in the final played at K K Hakhu Stadium this afternoon. Shalu Mehra, Gargi and Jagjit Kour were the scorers.
The men's final was witnessed by the chief guest, Minister for Planning, Labour and Employment, Ajay Sadhotra, who later presented winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes.
He appreciated the Hockey Jammu and Kashmir for their efforts to revive the game of in the state and assured all possible help from the government side in making hockey a popular sports discipline.
Prominent among others present were Jaswant Singh, Romal Singh, Sarla Kohli, Rajinder Singh, Harminder Singh and Dr Taran Singh.
This tournament was organised by Hockey Jammu and Kashmir under the overall supervision of resident secretary, MS Reen.

Kaka wins Patiri Bishnah Kesari dangal title

JAMMU, Nov 6: Wrestler Kaka of R S Pura in Jammu district clinched the Seventh Patiri- Bishnah Kesari Dangal which was organized by Patiri- Bishnah Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association at village Patiri in Tehsil Bishnah.
In the main bout, Kaka defeated Inderjeet of Amritsar in Punjab to receive a cash prize of Rs 7,000. Runners-up, Inderjeet got Rs 4,000 cash prize from chief guest, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Ashwani Sharma.
President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided while treasurer, Prithvi Raj Sharma and Block Development Officer, Rakesh Dubey were guests of honour. Sarpanch Surjeet Singh Charak was among other prominent present.
The second main bout won by Jonny of Attari in Punjab beating Lallu of Bajrangi Akhara Jammu to become rich by Rs 5,000. Third bout went to Kulbir Singh of Kot Bhalwal, who defeated Bobari of Sarore while Asaf of Bajrangi Akhara in Jammu secured fourth bout beating Babba of Attari in Punjab. In the fifth bout, Amir Khan of Nargada outplayed Pinda of Amritsar. Shinda of Amritsar beat Murad Ali of Domana Akhara to win the sixth main bout.
Members of organizing committee and those technical officials who helped in smooth conduct of dangal were Surinder Sharma (president), Girdhari Lal, Ramesh Chander Sharma, Panch Ashok Kumar, Panch Yash Paul Bhagat, Sardari Lal. Joginder Lal Sharma, Master Prem Kumar, Mohd. Fareed, Prem Choudhary and Murli Dhar.
In all, 45 bouts took place in this day-long dangal. Other Results: Tirthu of Manwal beat Suraj of Sunikha, Sujjan Ali of Domana beat Parshotam Singh of Tar Talocha, Vicky beat Suram Singh, Anyat Ali of Manwal beat Jamat Ali of Jatti, Gopal of Amritsar beat Kashmira of Dinanagar and Mohd. Akram of Chouadi beat Mukha of Dinanagar.



LOC XI enters final of T20 Cricket

POONCH, Nov 6: The LOC XI today sailed into the final of the ongoing Shaheed DySP Manjeet Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament at Degree College ground here.
In the semifinals, LOC XI trounced YCC by six wickets. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, YCC set a target of 116 runs. Sonu remained top scorer with 45 runs while Yasir contribute 17 runs to the total. From LOC, Shahzad took two wickets.
In reply, LOC XI chased the target, courtesy fine 63 runs innings from Govel. Naveed claimed three wickets from YCC giving away 17 runs.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Poonch, Mohd Rashid Bhat was chief guest, who interacted with the semifinalist teams and encouraged the boys. Principal of Higher Secondary (Boys) School, Makhan Lal Sharma was also present.
Meanwhile, according to the organsing secretary of the tournament, Mohd Tariq Khan, the final of the tournament shall take place on November eight at the same venue.



United Cricket Federation of India conducts Trial for under 19 age group

JAMMU, Nov 6: United cricket federation of India (Regd) is an NGO which is working for the development and the promotion of the cricket and other games in the state and in the country as well. The main motive of UCFI is to engage youth of the state Jammu and Kashmir in various national building activities through the sports and other social activities. Today UCFI conducted trial camp for under 19 at Jammu at Fly mandal cricket ground Mandal satwari. This camp will be for 3 days. Distt. Vice President (PDP) Vikram Singh was the Chief Guest and Mohammad Farooq Inqalabi Senior PDP Leader Mahore & Founder of "Qammar Publishing and educational research Academy" Qammar Ud Din was the Guest of Honor. President UCFI Mr. Safeer Ahmed gave the signal for under 19 trials camp along with other UCFI officials. Around 500 young talented players participated in this trial camp. Mater Mohan from Kathua, Zaffar Iqbal, mr. zaheer choudhary and Abdul Majeed was expert examiner who got the trial from the candidates. UCFI will select under 19 team which will participate at national and international level competition. Already UCFI has created district and tehsil's team from 17 to 28 years of age group at all the district of the state. All these selected teams are participating in the on going 1st J&K T20 Championship. Same like that these selected players across the state will participate in the tournament organized by UCFI and other associations of the state and country as well. UCFI is also organizing other social activities in the state and sports seminars as no other organization has done in the state till date.
