| Rahul' assertion on power devolution strains relations with NC | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 6: Rahul Gandhi's assertion that Cong will make it a point to implement provisions of 73rd Constitutional amendment has definitely strained relations in Congress and National Conference. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah though showering praises at Congress party for the last two-days had not made any reference about empowerment of panchayats. Congress party's Prime Ministerial candidate Rahul Gandhi had though pegged his entire speech on empowerment of people at the gross root level and also to bring about change by changing the style of governance. Omar Abdullah has though stated that Panchayat's elections are the one of the major contributions of his government but it wouldn't have been possible without the pressure of Congress. According to sources Rahul Gandhi had told his party leaders that some may say that he enjoys a personal equation with Omar Abdullah but for him it's the interest of party that counts much more than his relation. Omar is banking on his relations with Cong vice-president to get into the chair and if not then atleast be part of the government as Cong is likely to emerge as the single largest party. But Rahul Gandhi by making it clear that for him to bring change in the State by empowerment panchayats is of utmost important concerns and with it building the cadre of the party has made it amply clear that he will go by the advice of the party which is not in favour of any pre-poll alliance. Omar on the floor of the Assembly had said that those who oppose Block Development Council elections are opposed to panchayats but now with Rahul Gandhi himself asserting that women need to be empowered shows that how two leaders are heading in different directions. Rahul's assertion on empowerment of Panchayats will not be music to the ears of Omar Abdullah and it could get even worse in times to come. |
