| Pak flags unfurled amidst anti India sloganeering at Geelani's Shopian rally | | Administration turns Nelson's eye | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 6: Pak flags were unfurled and anti India slogans raised during Geelani's anti poll rally at Shopian today. The local administration watched the rally as mute spectators as there was no resistance in any form. As the news of Geelani's visit to Shopian today was already being disseminated among the general public by his party workers and preparations which include marking roads with white cement, hoisting Pakistan flags on electric poles and mobile towers started early this morning, however, no action was taken against anybody from the administration and sooner Geelani reached Shopian with his thousands of supporters, Pakistani flags were unfurled at many places in Main Chowk Shopian. Besides his supporters chanted anti India slogans during his arrival and departure from Shopian. According to the details received, Geelani during his address also criticised the policies of mainstream political parties towards Kashmir and said that his release and poll boycott campaign is not going to favour any political party during the forthcoming Assembly elections. The workers of various mainstream political parties of district Shopian informed Early Times on phone that hoisting Pakistan flags and chanting anti India slogans in main town Shopian is symbol of weakness among the administrative agencies who allow pro Pakistan separatist leaders to propagate their mission with much freedom and do not fix any accountability. Pleading anonymity they said that though poll boycott campaign of Geelani and other separatist leaders held little meaning as happened during the previous Assembly, Parliamentary and Panchayat elections in which people overwhelmingly voted for their candidates in every nook and corner of the State. |
