| Pressure building slogan of Cong fails to muse PR members | | Rahul playing 'rhetoric' game with renewed 'theatrics'........! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 6: Even as Congress has given an impression that it would start and continue to build pressure on National Conference to get what it has been contending for over two years -incorporating provisions of 73rd constitutional amendment in the J&K state Panchayati Act, there are few takers for this avowed commitment for the larger cause of empowerment of Panches and Sarpanches in the state. Not only are its rivals and opposition in general viewing it as renewed mode of 'theatrics' by the Congress , but the PR representatives who take pride in siding with the party feel foul now, given the fact that party leadership has been saying and assuring so umpteenth number of times and there was nothing new in the reiteration made by Rahul Gandhi today. Congress may be feeling upbeat about the fact that in the drama unfolded at the venue of Panhayat conference organised by the party leadership today at Jammu, the panches and sarpanches trained their guns against NC obliquely, and raised slogans in support of Rahul Gandhi , the fact remains that this development which they might be seeing as hitting NC , is going against the Congress in as much as NC. Moments after the Panchayat Conference concluded with a hard hitting assurance from Rahul Gandhi terming this as a 'fight' for their rights, there was a murmur even among a large section of the PR representatives that party leader is only indulging in rhetoric and there is nothing new or more to what he has said at least a couple of times in the past over one year while he addressed such functions in Srinagar. The Panchayat members , be they be from Congress support or owing allegiance with the party have only been hearing about their empowerment as any practical step from the government in this direction eludes till date. Congress has been making this commitment for along time and lately posturing in public that it was NC which was putting hurdles in the process that would ensure this happen on ground. This also goes without saying that Congress put it as a vital agenda in a couple of Coordination Committee meetings held recently but drew flak as NC even after showing some positive response is tactically avoiding it with deliberate silence and delay. Congress Vice president showed his utter helplessness when he asserted he would continue this battle with the government until the empowerment was granted to the Panchayati institutions. This, he said despite Congress being 'equal' partner in the coalition government . While he raised the tone in asserting that he would continue to exert pressure on the government, one wondered which government he was referring to. The moot question is that why and what for the Congress is waiting this happen and more than this if it could not pressurise NC in three years how it is going to do so now, when the elections are just few months away. Congress may feel something it has gained to its kitty by pressure building slogan but it is far from musing the target audience- the PR members who continue to stand as disillusioned lot. |
