| HC disposes PIL seeking preservation of 150 yrs old Gole Mahal | | | Jammu, Nov 6: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi today closed the proceedings in PIL seeking preservation of 150 years old Gole Mahal. This Public Interest Litigation filed by one Balbir Singh seeking protection of Gole Mahal Hazari Bagh Talab Tillo Jammu. The Building is stated to have been built by a Dogra King about 150 yrs ago. According to report, the police dept of the State Govt has taken-up the matter with Archaeology Survey of India so that it may be declared as Historical Site under J&K Ancient Monuments Preservation Act 1997. While disposing the petition, Division Bench observed that the instant PIL prays for issuance of directions to State to ensure that heritage of building known as Gole Mahal situated at Hazuri Bagh Talab Tillo is preserved and protected as Ancient Historicla site under J&K Ancient Monuments Preservation Act 1997. In response of petition, a status report in the has been filed by Director Archives Archaeology & Museums, J&K Govt Jammu on March 3, 2013 in which stated that building of Gole Mahal is declared as Heritage Site under the aforesaid Act. Division Bench observed that the relief sought in the PIL stands granted to the petitioner nothing survives for further order as such proceedings are closed. (JNF) |
