| Government machinery rusting in J&K Metrological Department | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Nov 6: To ensure accuracy of weight-bridges across Jammu region machinery worth Rs 90 lakhs gifted by the Union Government to Meteorological Department of the state is rusting and misuse of this huge amount is a major concern of the state. Sources informed that one of which is rusting at RTO office Kathua since long. Few years back the Union Government had gifted machinery-fitted two ten wheel trucks to J&K Metrological Department to keep the more correctness in work efficiency of weight-bridge "The cost of one machine laden truck ranges between Rs. 40-45 lakhs and this machine laden truck is rusting at district Kathua for the last three years sources said. They further said that one such machine was rotting in the premises of Regional Transport Office Kathua. "The state Legal Metrology Department has only written its name on the machine, while one tyre along with excel of truck has been stolen by thieves around one year back", sources said, adding that for around two years, the machine remained parked at one petrol pump near Lakhanpur, but after stealing of tyre, the truck was parked at RTO office Kathua. Sources further disclosed that at one hand department has been collecting lakhs of rupees as fine, in a single month but same department had been claiming of shortage of funds to run the machinery. "In past the department officials were claiming that they had no money, operators and drivers to run the machinery, but it is known fact that department earn several lakhs in a month as fine". It is seen that if the department would have been using the machinery, same would have enhanced the revenue but the officials were least bothered over the usage of gifts by Union Government.. While Assistant Controller Meteorological Department Ajay Verma said that due to the lack of proper staff and operator the machine couldn't be utilized but whenever the service is needed this machine is utilized by the department effectively. |
