| JK PUF urges state Government to release workers, union leaders of Chenani- Nashri tunnel | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 8: Jammu and Kashmir People's United Front (JK PUF) today demanded from state government to release workers, union leaders of Chenani Nashri tunnel. According to press release, PUF leader condemn police assaulted on striking workers working in Leighton Company. The strike was not a sudden one as the concerned workers union gave due notice for strike and as such has been pursuing with the lieghton, state government and state labor department for more than a year for redressed their genuine grievances and for implementation the law of land in respect of termination, working hours and other services conditions. They further said that the company exploiting the workers and mint profit out of same by forcing the workers to work for more than 12 hours without any compensation for extra hours with such paltry wage. "The right to organize peaceful protests is an inalienable right of the people in a democratic polity, both the leaders today appealed all the political parties and Trade Unions to rise to the occasion denial of democratic rights to workers of Chanani - Nasari four lane tunnel project" they said. They urged the state government to immediate release of workers and leaders of unions, avoid confrontation and find out an amicable solution to the issues through negotiations with the representatives of workers unions, the long pending genuine demands of workers should be given a patient hearing by management and amicable solution should reached at which can end this statement, both the leaders demanded. |
