| 5 years on, work of 22 km long Siot-Kalakot road hangs in balance | | NC represented Kalakot rues Omar's indifference | | Avinash Azad JAMMU, Nov 8: Notwithstanding accusations of discrimination by opposition parties against constituencies represented by their MLAs, certain constituencies represented by National Conference MLAs are facing indifference of state Government on account of various development works. Kalakote constituency, being represented by NC since 2002, where widening of a 22 kilometers road stretch, was incepted around five years back, but so far survey of road was conducted thrice but still the project is hanging in balance. First time, in 2008 the task of road widening between Siot to Kalakot was given to Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) with an estimated cost of Rs 32 crore. "Government allotted the project to ERA, but over burdened ERA, didn't execute the same", sources said, adding that after lapse of five years and non-execution by ERA, the responsibility was further given to PWD, R&B. Sources further said that after conducting survey of the stretch, R&B made an estimate of Rs 56 Crore for the project in March-April 2013. "In the month of August, the project was given to PMGSY and again a survey was conducted by the third agency but the execution of same was yet again caught in clouds of uncertainty", they said. Dismayed over non-seriousness of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah towards a vital road between Siot-Kalakot, a senior functionary of party, seeking anonymity said that it was very shameful when CM sanctioned Rs 2 cr for said project during his recent visit at Kalakot. "The residents of Kalakot had confirmed their loyalty towards NC, but NC has failed to meet the aspirations. It was very shocking for the public of Kalakot that CM announce Rs 2 Crore against the estimated cost of Rs 56 Crore," he said, adding that the CM had forgotten his promises made with public. "Already the party workers and leaders from Kalakot are feeling deceived, as their representative was not inducted in Cabinet, even after two consecutive victories", the leader said, adding that after creation of Kisaan Advisory Board, two years term was given to their leader which was merely an eye wash. However, concerned, MLA and former Vice Chairman of J&K Kisaan Advisory Board, Rashpal Singh had made all attempts for widening of road. |
