| Some Cong Ministers want to pre-poll alliance with NC | | Party leadership against any pre-poll arrangement | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 8: Although Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has hinted to enter into pre-poll alliance with coalition partner National Conference, his party leadership is not taking his statement seriously. Party leadership has been trying to percolate a message among the cadre that statement was given just for sake of statement and there is nothing seriousness in that. Instead of working on pre-poll alliance with NC, local Congress leaders have started work on contesting all the 87 assembly segments of the State. Sources in the Congress said that state leadership has given clear signal to the cadre that party would convince high command not enter pre-poll alliance with NC and keep all option open. "After Rahul Gandhi's statement which he had given in Kashmir on Thursday there was confusion among Congress workers especially in Jammu region so today some party leaders seek to remove such apprehension", sources said that leaders were assured that aspirations of party workers and cadre would be taken into consideration before taking any decision of alliance. Highly placed sources in the Congress said that a group of Ministers in the party were very particular to enter into alliance with NC because they don't want to take any risk for future elections. These Ministers were of the opinion that continuation of the alliance would help them to retain their ministries in the next Government would also be headed by Omar Abdullah, if party entered into pre-poll alliance. For their personal benefits these Ministers have not giving right feed back to the party high command. Sources said that majority of the party leaders and state leadership is against any pre-poll alliance. State party leadership is hopeful that Congress would emerge as a single largest party in the next elections so it would be easy for the party head the next Government rather than force to continue as second fiddle in the coalition. Insiders said that party leadership had roped in leaders of some other parties only to emerge as single largest party in the next assembly elections. State leadership has already prepared a blue print for contesting elections on all the 87 assembly segments. |
