Jammu, Nov 8 : The Roads and Buildings Department of the state has done patch work not only on the interior roads of the winter capital, the all important Tawi-bridge which takes immense load of city traffic has also got mere dabbing of patch work owing to paucity of funds. The department repairs all the roads of the winter capital every year before darbar move, but this time due to shortage of funds the department is doing only path work. The Tawi bridge which requires complete blacktop coat, has been repaired with patch work, which has made the drive more jerky.Sumit Gupta, a commuter said, "This is for the first time the department is doing patch work in Jammu ahead of darbar move, but at least the bridges should not be repaired with patch work.""These Jerky roads causes accidents, driving on the bridge has become more jurky these days," he added.Banwari Lal, 54, a shopkeeper at Bikram Chowk said, "The condition of the Tawi bridge, which is the life line of Jammu City, is already in critically bad condition, it required complete black top, but the department is taking chance with the lives of the commoners.""Earlier the department gives a new look to the entire city before darbar move, but this time they are just trying to save money," he added.S P Manhas, Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B), informed that the department has shortage of funds this year. He accepted that the life of the blacktop of the Tawi bridge is almost over and it required complete blacktop after removing the old part."The process of complete blacktop on the bridge will take about two months, so we have decided to start that work in May, after the Darbar moved to Srinagar, till then we have made temporary arrangements by patch work on the bridge," he said."We have also brought special kind of concrete for Tawi bridge, but cannot start work till the Darbar is here. |
